Tips to help you look your best for your business portrait

Men

  • Wear a long-sleeve shirt or jacket - This eliminates the chance of too much skin in your photo which draws attention away from your face.

  • Make sure jackets and shirts are the right fit. Collared shirts should fit tight to the back of the neck and not be baggy.

  • No wrinkles! Shirts and jackets should be wrinkle free. Wrinkles cannot always be removed in post-processing.

  • If you aren't wearing a jacket, wear a collared button up shirt. This will help frame your face.

  • It's best not to wear a T-shirt under your dress shirt. If you do, make sure it is very fitted and does not show through. White or nude colors are best for this.

  • Blacks, greys, blues and purples that are toned down are flattering on most people. Pastel colors and other neutral colors should be chosen with care so they don't blend in with your skin tone.

  • Stay away from large patterns on your clothing. A subtle pattern on a tie over a solid shirt works well. The opposite is also true. Pair a shirt with a subtle pattern with a solid tie and or suit coat.

  • Hair - If planning to get your hair cut, schedule it about a week before your session. This allows for time to look more natural.

  • Stay well-hydrated and moisturize your face - Drinking plenty of water in the few days before your session helps your skin have a warm, healthy glow. Applying moisturizer regularly helps too.

  • Get plenty of rest the night before to avoid bloodshot eyes and dark circles.

  • Relax and enjoy - our goal is to get a natural, relaxed look, come ready to enjoy a few minutes behind the camera.

Women

  • Wear a long-sleeve shirt or jacket - This eliminates the chance of too much skin in your photo which draws attention away from your face.

  • Wear well-fitted clothing (not too tight and not too loose).

  • Avoid low-cut tops - Again, this eliminates the chance of too much skin.

  • Avoid busy patterns or loud colors - When you wear solid colors, it keeps the focus on you rather than your clothing.

  • Be sure undergarments are not seen through the top. Bright studio lights can sometimes make fabrics more transparent than one realizes.

  • No wrinkles! Shirts and jackets should be wrinkle free. Wrinkles cannot always be removed in post-processing.

  • Jewelry - Keep jewelry at a minimum if you wear any at all. Big shiny earrings or necklaces will draw focus away from you.

  • Hairstyle - Schedule cut and color about a week before your session. This allows for time to look more natural.

  • Makeup - Wear what you usually wear. Adding extra "for the camera" will not look natural to you.

  • Stay well-hydrated and moisturize your face - Drinking plenty of water in the few days before your session helps your skin have a warm, healthy glow. Applying moisturizer regularly helps too.

  • Get plenty of rest the night before to avoid bloodshot eyes and dark circles.
